Daniel Beretta, known as the French voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger, has died at the age of 77. His friend Jean-Luc Reichmann paid tribute to him with a touching obituary on Instagram.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has lost his French voice. The actor, known for films such as “Double Impact” (1988), “Total Recall” (1990), “Last Action Hero” (1993), “True Lies” (1994), the “Terminator” saga (1984), and “The Expendables” (2010), was dubbed by Daniel Beretta. The 77-year-old died earlier this week in Ajaccio, Corsica. His death comes just weeks after the death of Alain Dorval, who provided the French voice of Sylvester Stallone. His friend Michel Vigné announced the sad news on Facebook: “Friend, brother, buddy… Goodbye, Daniel, I send you my love.”

Daniel Beretta wasn’t just the French voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also provided the voice of Ernie Hudson, Rutger Hauer, and Alan Rickman. He voiced Lumière in the animated film “Beauty and the Beast” (1991) and the mayor in “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993). He also gained fame as an actor, appearing in films such as “Wild Summer” (1970), “Dust of the Sun” (1972), “Nightcrawler” (1988), and “Cyrano de Bergerac” (1990), to name a few. Since the American series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” began airing in 1999, he has also voiced the French actor who provided the famous scream.

On Saturday, March 23, 2024, shortly after the news broke, the host of the game show “Les 12 Coups de Midi” on TF1 shared a black-and-white photo of himself and wrote: “It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of my friend, the actor and singer Daniel Beretta, who lent his French voice to Arnold Schwarzenegger in about thirty films, at the age of 77.” He added: “My thoughts are with your daughter and your family, dear Daniel.”
